A City Break is perfect to add on to the beginning or end of your stay or cruise in Europe. Or combine two or more City Breaks and create a vacation of your own - the choice is yours!
Arriving at Rome airport, make your way to your selected hotel to check in and the remainder of the day is at leisure to relax or start exploring the "Eternal City' on your own. An optional transfer can be booked on request.
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, followed by a professionally guided tour of the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter Square. You will be collected from your hotel to take a tour of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel, jumping the lines. No stress to reach the area: upon arrival, your guide will lead you into the museums, through our preferred entrance, to visit one of the most important art collections in the world! You’ll tour the gallery, visiting all those main spots you’ve heard about like the Gallery of Maps, the Gallery of Tapestries, and the Borgia Apartments. The guide will tell you everything about the Raphael Rooms and their exceptional frescoes, including The School of Athens, and will bring you to the Sistine Chapel, whose ceiling is one of the cornerstone works of High Renaissance art. The tour wouldn’t be complete without St. Peter’s Square, the open space which lies before the basilica, redesigned by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and which is itself an architectural masterpiece of the Baroque age. Admire St. Peter’s Basilica (outside) which isn’t only the largest church in the world but also contains several pieces of fine art: think the canopy designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini or the Pietà by Michelangelo. After about 3.5 hours, the tour ends in the Vatican area and the remainder of the day is yours to explore the Eternal City as you choose. (B)
After breakfast, the morning is free to spend as you please. In the afternoon a guided tour will introduce you to Rome's impressive catacombs. Rome is a city that was built and rebuilt upon itself for thousands of years. Our Crypts, Bones & Catacombs tour is designed to take you deep down into the layers of Roman history, in order to uncover the spell-binding story of the city through the ages. On this expert-led tour, you will venture beneath the surface to explore the city's mysterious yet enchanting underworld, its underground cemeteries & temples that once housed many of the city’s dead, and its most mysterious cult. You'll explore the eerie Capuchin Crypt, aka the "Bone Chapel", a unique burial site covered in the bones of 4,000 friars, follow in the footsteps of Ancient Romans as far back as 300 B.C. with a drive along the ancient Appian Way and stop off at the spectacular Roman Aqueducts to learn all about one of the ancient world's most impressive constructions. With comfortable, air-conditioned minivan transport throughout and a small group of 18 people or fewer, your only responsibility is to immerse yourself in the thrills and wonder of underground Rome. The remainder of the day is yours to enjoy as you choose. (B)
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and then it is time to say good bye to Rome. Or ask your Travel Agent about extending your stay with CIT Tours. (B)
