Day 2: Madrid | Toledo | Madrid

Saturday - Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting at our office (C/ San Nicolás, 15) for a panoramic tour of the city. On a walking tour through the streets of Madrid’s historic center, we will discover iconic sites such as Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, and Plaza de la Villa. Afterwards, we will board one of our Page 13 of 154 buses for a drive past the city’s most outstanding monuments. We will see the oldest bridge in Madrid, with spectacular views of the Royal Palace. We will continue along Gran Vía, visit the Las Ventas Bullring, pass by the Cibeles Fountain and the Puerta de Alcalá—the most famous of the five ancient gates into Madrid—and see the recently renovated Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. On the way back, we will pass through Calle Serrano and Atocha Station, ending at the Plaza de Oriente parking area, right in front of the Royal Palace. Free time, then meeting again at our office at the scheduled time to depart for Toledo. We will take a walking tour through the historic city of Toledo, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986, and an impressive blend of Arab, Jewish, and Christian cultures. We will admire the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, sponsored by Queen Isabella of Castile to become a royal mausoleum. We will then walk to the Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca, today a magnificent museum of Mudejar style. Our visit continues to the Church of Santo Tomé, where we will admire El Greco’s world-renowned masterpiece, The Burial of the Count of Orgaz. We will end in front of the Cathedral of Toledo, considered the most important example of Gothic style in Spain. Free time and return to Madrid (ending at Plaza de Oriente). Accommodation at the hotel. (B)
