Enjoy a 4-day visit to the Algarve, Portugal's sunny southern coast beloved for its mild Mediterranean climate, golden beaches contrasting with rugged cliffs, and lively towns. You'll discover the main natural & historic highlights of the West Algarve with plenty of time to relax and soak up the sun on its golden sands! 

Day 1: Arrival in Portimão

Welcome to Portimão on Portugal's sunny Algarve coast. Make your way to your selected hotel and, after checking in, the remainder of the day is free to relax or start exploring on your own. An optional transfer can be booked on request.

Day 2: Algarve a la Carte - Full Day Tour

Today is a day of discovery and history where you visit some of the most interesting and scenic areas of the Algarve in a small group of no more than 8 participants. Steeped in tradition, encompassing the mountains and the sea it’s the perfect way to acquaint yourself with the Algarve. Our route follows lesser travelled paths, giving you a discerning view of Portugal’s past and present. We travel to the town of Silves, which in Moorish times was the capital of the Algarve. Here you have the chance to visit the castle (not included) dating from this period and which offers magnificent views over the surrounding countryside. The red-toned brick contrast seems to gleam in the sunshine and the sense of living history is palpable. There is time to visit the impressive Gothic cathedral and wander the narrow streets and alleys. From here we continue our ascent into the Monchique Mountains, a haven of green undulating hillsides, majestic cork trees, and pungent eucalyptus groves. At the sleepy spa village of Caldas de Monchique, one can partake of the natural spring waters, claimed to have fantastic medicinal properties. The village is tiny, but its buildings and surrounding areas are very beautiful and perfect for a leisurely stroll. Following the winding road we reach the highest point in the Algarve - Fóia, standing at 902m above sea level. The views here are dramatic and the air is incredibly pure. Making our way downhill from Foia through the countryside, we stop in the small village of Marmelete where you will enjoy lunch in one of the local restaurants (included). After lunch we go straight to the Costa Vicentina, to visit magnificent beaches where you'll have some time to walk around, take pictures, relax and enjoy the view. Then it’s on to the ‘end of the world’ – the town of Sagres – famous home to Prince Henry’s School of Navigation. At Cape St. Vincent, Europe’s most south-western point, a tiny lighthouse perches atop the cliffs and braves the elements. Breathe the invigorating sea air and marvel at the vastness of the landscape. Don’t miss this day - a perfect blend of past and present! (B. L.)

Day 3: Portimão

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and a full day at leisure to spend as you chose. Relax by the hotel pool, soak up the glorious sun on Praia da Rocha the beach, or make your way to picturesque Praia do Careano or Praia do Boião beach with their red cliffs & unique rock formations. In the afternoon perhaps take a stroll along Portimão's scenic waterfront and explore the quaint streets of the historic old town. (B)

Day 4: Depart Portimão

Today marks the end of your Algarve City Break. Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and, at the appropriate time, make your way to the airport or railway station for your continuing journey. Or ask us about extending your stay in Portimão. (B)
