On today's full-day tour of Santorini, you'll learn about the history of the island, admire the architecture of its traditional villages, enjoy leisure time at its volcanic beaches and experience the fabulous Oia sunset! The journey starts with a short photo stop at the famous red volcanic beach, well known for the unique colour of the sand, its soaring red lava cliffs and clear green waters before visiting the Akrotiri Archaeological site, dating from the Bronze Age and one of Greece’s most important prehistoric settlements. Akrotiri was destroyed during a catastrophic 17th century BC volcanic eruption and buried under thick layers of ash which preserved the city in near perfect conditions, therefore often being referred to as the ‘prehistoric Pompeii’ (entrance fees not included). After this visit, we proceed to Perissa Beach, one of the longest black sandy beaches in the Cyclades and the most popular beach of Santorini, where you'll have free time for swimming and lunch on your own. We then explore Emporio Village, one of the oldest and most authentic traditional villages of Santorini, built like a small labyrinth and visit its medieval fortress(15th-century) followed by a visit to a Santorini winery. You'll get to taste three distinctive Santorini wines and learn about one of the oldest vineyards in Europe while admiring the spectacular view of the volcano. A short stop is then planned at the highest peak of Santorini (567 meters) to admire the striking panoramic view of the entire island. Finally, you'll be transferred to the village of Oia, one of the most photographed places in Greece which inspired many artists & poets with its unsurpassed beauty, in time to experience its legendary sunset!
