A 7-day culinary tour through Germany's romantic south. Experience some of Germany's most beautiful historic cities, medieval walled towns and serene Alpine landscapes while tasting excellent regional wines & beer, learning about the traditional Bavarian beermaking process and sampling local food specialities along the way!

Day 1: Frankfurt | Würzburg

Your culinary tour of Germany begins with a short train journey from Frankfurt to Würzburg, a pretty town in the heart of the Franconian wine region. After checking into your hotel, you are free to explore the city on your own. Make sure to visit the Residence Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the cathedral and the medieval Marienberg fortress with its magnificent views of the Main River Valley and the cathedral. In the evening you'll enjoy a culinary night watchman tour. During this tour, you will learn more about the history of the city and stop at traditional “Gasthäuser" (Inn’s) to taste typical Franconian specialities such as Franconian cider soup, "Bratwurst" (fried sausages) and Apfelküchle (baked apple rings). (D)

Day 2: Würzburg | Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber

In the morning travel from Würzburg to Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber. Nestled on the shores of the meandering Tauber River Rothenburg is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities along Germany's Romantic Road. The medieval centre has been beautifully preserved and a stroll through its narrow, cobblestone streets is a trip back in time. Admire the picturesque half-timbered houses, the 13th-century town hall dominating the mains square and perhaps take a walk around the extensive medieval town wall. Today's highlight will be a private wine tasting where you will taste different types of the region's wines. (B)

Day 3: Rothenburg ob-der-Tauber | Nuremberg

Today you continue by train to Nuremberg. Take the time to explore the historic city centre at your own pace and see the well preserved Kaiserburg, Gothic churches, romantic houses and peaceful squares. In the late afternoon, join a unique tour that will take you through the underground cellars of Nuremberg where you learn about the history and the elaboration process of beer, since the 19th-century. The tour ends with a tasting of the good local beer - Prost! (B)

Day 4: Nuremberg | Bamberg | Nuremberg

After breakfast, make your way to the railway station for the 30-minute train ride to Bamberg. Located in northern Bavaria, Bamberg is famous for its beer and features a lovely old city centre, a UNESCO heritage site. You can explore the historic city centre at your own pace, visit the cathedral, Altenburg Castle and soak up the relaxing atmosphere of the city in a “Biergarten” while enjoying a delicious local beer. Return to Nuremberg for overnight. (B)

Day 5: Nuremberg | Lindau / Lake Constance

Today's rail journey will take you from Nuremberg to the small island & town of Lindau, located on the eastern side of Lake Constance and featuring spectacular views of the Alps. Here, in the afternoon, you will enjoy a tasting of local cheese & wine with an experienced Cheese Sommelier and Wine Guide. The remainder of the day is free to admire the town's many sights and historical buildings. (B)

Day 6: Lindau | Munich

This morning, continue by train to your last destination - Munich. The capital of Bavaria is famous for its beer culture as well as for hearty meals and, after checking into your hotel, you'll enjoy a culinary discovery tour of the city. In addition to a historic tour of Munich's Old Town, you will experience Bavarian cuisine as you explore the historic Viktualien Market, which since the beginning of the 19th-century has been offering all kinds of local delicacies right in the heart of the city. Accompanied by your guide, you will explore the colourful market stands and learn what a Cabbage Wrap is or a ‘Schmalznudel’, and of course, get to taste those as well. You'll also discover how the typical Bavarian white sausage comes into being, what a ‘Striezel` is and what a pretzel represents. (B)

Day 7: Munich

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before making your way to the railway station or airport for your onward journey, or ask us about extending your stay in Munich. Auf Wiedersehen. (B)
