A journey to discover the many splendours of Portugal’s north, rich in history, cultural & religious treasures and unique traditions. During this 8-day escorted tour you'll visit walled vibrant cities, walled medieval towns & majestic castles and journey through lovely Douro Valley with its ancient vineyards!

Day 1: Lisbon Arrival

Friday - Upon arrival at Lisbon Airport, a private transfer will take you to your centrally located hotel. After check-in, enjoy a welcome gift in your room featuring hotel wine, mineral water, and fruit, before spending the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Lisboa | Tomar | Alcobaça | Batalha | Fátima

Saturday - Breakfast at the hotel. Departing from Lisboa through scenic landscapes dotted with windmills and orchards to Tomar, a city deeply connected to the Knights Templar. Visit the Convent of Christ, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its rich history and architectural splendour. Continue to Alcobaça to admire its Gothic church and the romantic tombs of King Pedro and Inês de Castro. Then, head to Batalha to visit the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and the resting place of Prince Henry the Navigator. Conclude the day in Fátima, home to the renowned Marian Shrine, with the possibility of attending the Candle Procession. (B)

Day 3: Fátima | Coimbra | Porto

Sunday - Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Coimbra, a city steeped in academic tradition. Visit its historic University, including the breathtaking Joanina Library, a baroque masterpiece, and learn about the traditions of its students. Stop by the Church of Santa Clara, where Queen Saint Isabel, known for the Miracle of the Roses, is entombed. Continue to the vibrant city of Porto. Wander its lively streets, admire the Ribeira district along the Douro River, and immerse yourself in its rich heritage and famous Port wine. (B)

Day 4: Porto | Guimarães | Braga | Porto

Monday - Breakfast at your hotel. Porto is Portugal's 2nd largest city and UNESCO World Heritage site, a living amphitheatre inviting us to make a morning visit to discover the riverside area, old houses, palaces & churches that history has made eternal and Port wine, renown worldwide. We then continue to the Minho area, the northwest region of Portugal that offers natural green scenery and the sparkling “green wine”. Our first stop of the day is Guimarães, the cradle of the nation & birthplace of the first king of Portugal, where a walk through the historic centre plunges one back into medieval times. Visit the Sacred Hill, crowned by the Castle, as well the Palace of the Dukes of Bragança dating back to the 15th century. Next, we Drive to Braga, known as the "Portuguese Rome" for its concentration of religious architecture including the oldest Cathedral of the country, and the Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary with its famous baroque stairway & gardens. Return to our hotel for another night in Porto. (B)

Day 5: Porto | Viana do Castelo | Porto

Tuesday - Breakfast at the hotel. Depart for Viana do Castelo, a picturesque city where history and scenic beauty merge. Visit the Basilica of Santa Luzia, offering panoramic views over the city and the Lima River. Stroll through the historic centre, characterised by its cobblestone streets, traditional buildings, and lively squares. Take time to explore the shops showcasing local crafts, such as the famous
filigree jewellery, and enjoy the vibrant riverside promenade. The charming ambience of Viana invites you to immerse yourself in its unique blend of maritime heritage and cultural richness. Return to Porto for the evening. (B)

Day 6: Porto | Amarante | Casa de Mateus | Douro Valley | Viseu

Wednesday - Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Amarante, known for its scenic beauty and the legacy of São Gonçalo. Visit Casa de Mateus in Vila Real, an iconic manor house surrounded by exquisite gardens. Travel through the breathtaking Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site, stopping in Régua for lunch (not included). Continue to Pinhão, the heart of the Port wine region, where the landscape of terraced vineyards is unforgettable. End the day in Viseu, a historic city tied to the legend of Viriato, the Lusitanian leader.  Explore its charming old town and vibrant commercial streets. (B)

Day 7: Viseu | Aveiro | Nazaré | Óbidos | Lisbon

Thursday - Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to Aveiro, the Venice of Portugal, with its picturesque canals and colourful "moliceiro" boats. Savour the city’s traditional sweet, "ovos moles".  Continue to Nazaré, a traditional fishing village renowned for its giant waves, maritime charm, and vibrant atmosphere. Take a stroll along its beachside promenade and admire the colourful fishing boats. Finally, explore Óbidos, a stunning medieval town surrounded by well-preserved walls, where you can wander its narrow cobblestone streets lined with whitewashed houses adorned with bougainvillea. Don’t forget to taste the famous cherry liqueur, "ginjinha", served in a chocolate cup. Return to Lisbon in the evening. (B)

Day 8: Lisbon

Friday - This morning after breakfast, a private car will transfer you back to Lisbon airport to begin your journey back home. (B)
