One of the busiest ports of the Mediterranean, Barcelona is not only a city of restaurants, bars & clubs but one that has been breaking ground in art, architecture & style since the late 19th Century. You'll have a full week to discover this city, enjoy a visit to the nearby Montserrat Monastery plus a full-day tour to the medieval cities of Girona and Figueres with its unique Dalí Theater- Museum.

Day 1: Barcelona

Welcome to Spain! Arriving at Barcelona's International Airport collect your luggage and clear customs. A driver will be waiting for the private car transfer to your hotel in central Barcelona. The remainder of the day is free to begin your exploration of this cosmopolitan city.

Day 2: Barcelona Highlights

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel followed by a guided tour showcasing Barcelona's many highlights. Your tour starts with a panoramic tour along the elegant Passeig de Gràcia where you will see the most famous Gaudi houses, Casa Batlló and La Casa Mila (La Pedrera) as well as other majestic buildings of the Modernism era, before continuing to the sea where you will be able to admire the intense changes the city underwent with the organization of the Olympic Games in 1992. You will drive by the Arc of the Triumph, Ciudadela Park, the Olympic Village, the Olympic Port, the beach and the fisherman’s quarter, called  Barceloneta, the Port Vell, Plaza (square) de Colon with its famous Columbus monument, indicating which way he sailed to discover the Americas. This point is also the beginning of the famous Ramblas of Barcelona. Next, we proceed up Montjuïc where you will enjoy a cable car ride offering precious views of the city below. The bus will pick us up again at the last station and we will continue our Montjuïc visit passing by the sports facilities built for the 1992 Olympic Games: the Lluis Companys stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi, the Olympic swimming pool Picornell, followed by a visit to El Poble Espanyol (the Spanish Village) where you can admire a collection of traditional Spanish buildings and a demonstration of a selection of the handicrafts made in this country. Finally, we return to the city centre for a guided walking tour of the old centre. Our guide will take you to the Ramblas, Cathedral Square, through the narrow street of the Gothic quarter and to Plaza Sant Jaume with the City Hall and Palau de la Generalitat, the seat of the Catalonian government. The tour ends at Plaza de Catalunya in the city centre. The afternoon is free to spend as you please. (B)

Day 3: Montserrat

Set off this morning, after breakfast, for an excursion to Montserrat. After driving through picturesque little villages you will arrive at the incomparable setting of the mountain of Montserrat, which rises majestically to 4,051 feet (1,235 meters). Next, visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which holds the famous 12th Century Romanesque carving of Virgen Moreneta, the Black Virgin. The Royal Basilica has been one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Spain for hundreds of years. On some days the children's choir sings in the monastery at midday, and so you may be fortunate enough to catch one of their delightful performances. Your tour includes a tasting of 4 typical liquors of Montserrat plus entrance free to Audiovisual "Montserrat Portes Endins". Return to Barcelona mid-afternoon for free time. (B)

Day 4: Barcelona

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel before continuing your discovery of this city at your own pace. Perhaps stroll the world famous Las Ramblas and enjoy its numerous street performers, shopping for souvenirs or combine shopping with culture at the lesser known Barrio Gotic. (B)

Day 5: Girona & Figueres + Dali

This full-day excursion from Barcelona with comfortable bus and guide on board offers you to visit the 2 largest cities north of Barcelona: Girona, medieval city with one of the best preserved Jewish quarters in Europe and Figueres with its unique Dalí Theater-Museum.  First, you will visit Girona, a monumental city where you can experience its history in the small streets of the old city centre. You will enjoy a guided walking tour of the city centre, visiting the Cathedral in the old city centre, with its well-preserved medieval streets that lead you towards the famous pastel-coloured houses at the edge of the river bank. The old city centre of Girona holds an important artistic heritage. You will be given some free time in Girona to have lunch on your own. In the afternoon we will take you to the Dalí Theater- Museum in Figueres (30km from Girona), This museum holds the biggest collection of artworks that represent the artistic evolution of Salvador Dalí, from his first artistic experiments until his surreal creations and his art he made during the last years of his life. The tour includes the guided visit of Girona and the entrance of the Dalí Theater- Museum. (B)

Day 6: Barcelona

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and a full day at leisure to spend as you please. For tonight you may wish to book an optional Tapas Walking tour combining gourmet food & Catalan culture or perhaps visit some of Barcelona's famous tapas bars on your own.  (B)

Day 7: Depart Barcelona

Today marks the end of your tour. Breakfast at your hotel and check-out. At the appropriate time a private car transfer will take you back to the airport to board your return flight to Canada. (B)
