Dominated by Mt Epomeo, Ischia's a small but mountainous island off the northern tip of the Bay of Naples. Known as the Green Isle for its lush vegetation, with blossoming gardens, spa towns, and jaw-dropping scenery, Ischia makes for a delightful day trip from Sorrento. Today's tour features a scenic drive, free time for lunch, and the famed La Mortella Gardens. Departing from Sorrento, take in the magnificent views as you travel across the Bay of Naples by hydrofoil to Ischia, where on arrival you'll enjoy a panoramic bus tour of the island's highlights. There will be free time for lunch on your own and in the afternoon you'll discover the star of today's excursion, the subtropical La Mortella Gardens. Created and lovingly tended to during decades by English composer William Walton and his Argentinian wife, Susana, they feature more than 300 rare and exotic plants, along with ornate statues and waterfalls. Admire the views from the upper hill over the Bay of Forio, then enjoy some more free time until it's time to board the boat again. With an approximate duration of 10 hours, arrival in Sorrento is expected around 6:00 pm.
